Eastern Sydney Multicultural Access Project (ESMAP)
About Us
ECCFCSC received funding from the Ageing, Disability and Home Care Department under HACC Round 13 to work with HACC funded services in the Eastern Sydney Region to increase their access to Australians from culturally and linguistically diverse communities (CALD). The Eastern Sydney Region includes the five Local Government Areas of:
- Botany
- Randwick
- City of Sydney
- Waverley, and
- Woollahra
In February 2000 a consultation to determine how the Eastern Sydney Multicultural Access Project was held with the HACC and HACC-like organisations in Eastern Sydney.
The consultation highlighted the competing needs of the HACC organisations with one group stressing the need for the employment of bilingual workers to help culturally and linguistically diverse clients to access their services, while another group was interested in community development, consultation, training and assistance with the new HACC Reforms and Standards.
An advisory Reference Group was established to provide advice, support and guidance to the project.
Multicultural Access Projects assist in building greater capacity within HACC services to respond more effectively to the needs of CALD communities and to deliver quality services, which respond to the needs of elderly people, people with disabilities and their carers from CALD background.
Aims:
ESMAP objectives are:
- Strengthen the capacity of the HACC service system to respond to the specific needs of the CALD HACC target population
- Identify/ascertain the HACC needs of CALD communities to integrate within the HACC planning process
- Increase awareness, knowledge and understanding of HACC Program among CALD HACC target population groups and other relevant stakeholders
- Provide Information, Support, Advocacy and Counselling services to elderly people, people with disabilities and carers from CALD communities.
